William Faulkner s Barn Burning - 2297 Words

William Faulkner wrote many of his stories to take place in the south. The reason for this is he was born and lived in Mississippi and because of this the south had a special place in his heart. Faulkner used his own life and issues of his day to create a county in Mississippi where all of his stories take place. Faulkner was a very inspirational writer for people living in southern states. Using his own personal experiences as well as taking inspiration from his favorite writers, William Faulkner wrote â€Å"Barn Burning† and his other works about the struggles of living life in the south for white and black people during the civil rights movement. It is our job to learn from another’s failure, so we can be great†(Stein). Faulkner acknowledged that no person on this earth is perfect and that we all make mistakes in our lives but he also understood that it is through those mistakes of the people before us and even our own that we learn to grow as a person and not to make the same mistakes and to find a way for us to become the best person we can be. Faulkner knew that he was responsible for inspiring people to write the same way he was inspired by the writers that came before him. After being asked about who inspired him as a writer the most Faulkner responded, â€Å"He was the father of my generation of American writers and the tradition of American writing which our successors will carry on. He has never received his proper evaluation. Dreiser is his older brother and Mark Twain the father of them both†(Stein). Faulkner knew that without the people who came before him he wouldn’t have written about the things he did. He knew that he was not the beginning of a new generation of writers and writing style but one of the writers who got to partake in one of the greatest times of writing in American history.
